Put your compassion into action! Join us for an unforgettable experience, learning the ins and outs of running a farmed animal sanctuary on the beautiful Big Island of Hawaii! 

We are currently home to 47 feral and domestic animals including cows, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, cats, and dogs. This internship will provide chosen individual with a meaningful educational experience, caring for and connecting with rescued farmed and feral animals; working side-by-side with our founder, Paula Buck, on the sanctuary, in the office, and out in the community.In exchange for work, intern will have on-site housing provided with kitchen, bathroom and living space, as well as a vehicle available for use when needed. 



  • Responsible for airfare to and from Hawaii.

  • Responsible for personal products, entertainment, off-site laundry costs, etc.

  • Must live and promote a vegan lifestyle while on sanctuary grounds. No use of animal products or byproducts. This includes meat, dairy, eggs, honey, leather, wool, etc.

  • Commitment period is 6 weeks.

  • Intern must live on-site throughout internship.


  • 18 years or older.

  • Valid Driver’s License.

  • Working cell phone.

  • Animal lover.

  • Good animal behavior observation skills.

  • Respectful but not fearful of animals- big and small.

  • Ability to perform some physical labor and lifting.

  • Not afraid to get sweaty and dirty.

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.

  • Ability to work well with a variety of people.

  • Extremely reliable and dependable.

  • Flexible and open to a multitude of tasks.



The chosen candidate will work approximately 5-6 hours a day, five days a week (25-30 hours a week). Hours will vary depending on that day’s task but will be planned out so that you can plan your free time accordingly. Weekends and holidays may be required. When the founder’s husband is off-site, you may be required to work six days a week and will be required to remain on property from 5pm each evening until 8am next morning, 7 days a week, in case of an emergency.

  • Daily animal care- feeding, cleaning enclosures, hoof trims, brushing, etc.

  • Daily animal interaction- brushing, petting, reading, singing, learning their stories, personalities, etc.

  • Help with simple builds and maintenance of animal houses, fencing, etc.

  • Office work such as answering emails, phone calls, mailings, scheduling, organizing, etc.

  • Assist with tours.

  • Assist with hot dog stand out in the community.

  • Errands as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.
