Do you live on the Big Island? Love animals? Want to spend time with them each week, brushing, loving, and bonding with them, and sharing their stories with visitors?
Senior Volunteers must be 16 years or older with reliable transportation.
Junior Volunteers must be 13-16 years old with parental permission.
Must be trustworthy and work well with others, as well as independently.
Must love animals and be willing to work with various animals including cows, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens and turkeys.
Weekday volunteers work two-hour shifts, once a week. You will be required to train with someone your first three shifts before being allowed to work with the animals alone. Because of the time it takes to train volunteers, we ask that you only apply if you can commit to a minimum of three months. Available shifts are Mon-Fri, 10a-Noon and 1p-2p.
Beginning mid-February 2022, we will reopen to public tours. We are looking for people who can commit to Sundays from 10am to 2pm, effective immediately.
Senior volunteers will spend time with a specific animal (or group of animals), loving them, brushing them, sharing their stories with the guests, and make sure guests are acting appropriately at all times. This is a very important responsibility, as you are the voice for the animals. Animals aren't required to interact with guests and as their voice, you must be able to express this when needed. Senior Volunteers will be required to be here most Sundays, taking very few days off during the year. Because of the time it takes to train volunteers, we ask that you only apply if you can commit to a minimum of three months.
Junior Volunteers will work under Senior Volunteers. Junior Volunteers may work with animals but may also do different volunteer work pertinent to helping the tours run flawlessly.
Incentives and rewards will be given to regular volunteers when they reach anniversary dates such as six months, one year, two years, etc.
